Our Specimen Reception Team are a critical function within our laboratory, receiving all specimens that arrive into the laboratory.
The Team is led by our Specimen Reception Manager, who is supported by a number of Veterinary Laboratory Assistants
The main role of Specimen Reception is:

- Receipt and cross-checking of specimens and request forms
- Labelling specimens and request forms with a unique barcode containing the laboratory accession number
- Data entry of patient, specimen and test information into a laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
- Delivery of specimens to the correct department for analysis
- Scanning and storage of request forms
- Ensuring referral samples are sent to the appropriate external laboratory
